That CafeThat Cafe My wife,Pauline and I went there for my birthday and were very pleased with all aspects of the meal. Car parking isn't much of a problem as you should be able to park either on Stockport Road itself or on one of the nearby side streets. For Starters I chose to have the Smoked Salmon and Halibut parcel filled with a Lemon dressing, and my wife had the Scallops and King Prawns, both of which were superbly presented and tasted great. Couldn't ask for more from a starter. For the main course I had Roast Mallard with Bubble and Squeak and a Lindonberry Sauce, and Pauline had Venison with Herb dumplings and a shallot gravy, (both were on the menu as being served pink, but the waiter asked us both how we wanted them cooking (as they recognise not everyone's taste is how the chef recommends it), both were cooked to our liking and came with a selection of fresh vegetables and new potatoes, ample for both of us. My Mallard was good , the sauce being very fruity, I thoroughly enjoyed it, Pauline's Venison was if anything even better than my main meal. For a sweet , Pauline had a Lemon and Sultana sponge, which was very nice. I didn't actually spot anything I really fancied, so I asked if there was any homemade ice cream, to which the waiter said he'd go and have a look to see what they had, he managed to come up with some Vanilla and some Lemon and Ginger, which again tasted very nice. Rounded off with a couple of coffees, the whole meal was very good. Live Jazz on the first Wednesday of every month. Booking : I'd recommend booking for a Friday or
Saturday night, Verdict : Excellent...one of the best in South Manchester, comparable with the LimeTree in Didsbury (Lapwing Lane). Peter Pancake (October 1999)
