The Raj Restaurant40, Park Green George and I went to the Raj a couple of times when it first opened a few years ago and enjoyed the food but we thought that it was quite expensive. Since then the prices seemed to have stayed the same and other restaurants have caught up with it so it is now on a par with other Indian restaurants in Macclesfield. The restaurant is pleasant and clean and the staff attentive, but it was 8 o'clock on a Monday, things may be different when it is busy. To start I had vegetable chat on puri which was tasty and more than enough for one person. George who had decided not to have a starter helped me finish it. For the main course I had prawn kashmiri which was unusual as it contained banana, pineapple and lychee. It was also very creamy. This isn't a curry for those who do not like sweet things. George had chicken shashlik which was very tasty and not too hot, they had gone a bit overboard with the red food colouring though. The pilau rice and garlic nan were good. They do have unusual things on the menu such as curried pumpkin and a dish of chicken and green peas (apparently this was a favourite with the army when India was part of the empire). Price £26 overall rating Fair. Gay Gourmet & George |
