Owens - Update136, Queen's Drive Tel: 0151 722 3845 Mon. 2nd July 2001 We said we'd return - and we did. The restaurant was fairly busy - for a Monday evening. Aperitifs: Pernod, Martini, Heineken and a fruit juice while we perused the menu and had a bit of banter with the owner. Owens have an "Early Doors" weekday menu, and mains were listed at £8.95, with some dishes attracting a small premium (eg Duck: + £3.00) Still a limited menu, but none the worse for that, and we still took quite a long time making our minds up - everything on the menu was enticing. A bottle of Pinot Grigio, and a bottle of Amarone were selected. Starters: Fish Pancake, Scallops, Spring Rolls and Fish Patties. All were pronounced excellent. Mains: Pork Cutlet, Lamb Shank, 2 of us had Duck. Again, we all thought it would be difficult to better these dishes - nothing was left. Desserts: Trifle, Sticky Toffeee Pudding and Cheese. Cognac, Liquers and coffees to round off an excellent evening (but a pity there was no entertainment that day - we didn't check whether entertainment was still a feature). Having said that, there was ever so slight a hint that a bit of complacency was setting in. I hope they keep their spirits up and continue in the vein to which we've become accustomed. Verdict: Recommended Sandro, Marg, Jan & Malcolm | ||||
