Jai Kathmandu Indian and Nepalese CuisineJai Kathmandu Indian and Nepalese Cuisine345 Palatine RoadNorthernden Manchester Lancashire M22 4FY Tel: 0161 946 0501 Tel: 0161 945 7948 Sandro and I visited one Thursday lunchtime as we had various items to discuss. We know the Jai Kathmandu from old, but hadn’t visited for a number of years. We visited Rusholme the last time we were tempted out for a lunchtime curry, but this time we felt like a change and luckily remembered the Jai Kathmandu as being one of very few Indian restaurants in the area that open at lunchtime. When we arrived we were the only customers and the manager (we assume) was busy hovering and cleaning. Anyway, he welcomed us in and say us down. We ordered a couple of pints of Kingfisher lager and perused the menu. Sandro remembered the last time he had been there he had the Rani Chicken to start. So persuaded by his description I decided to join him for that. For main course we were also quite unoriginal and both chose the Karahi Gosht. We ordered 2 Pilau rice and a Nan bread. The Rani chicken was a minced spiced chicken in batter, served on a side salad. It was very acceptable and nice and light to start. The Karahi Lamb was very good and the rice and Nan bread was piping hot and fresh. We both did our main course full justice. I had another Kingfisher lager to wash it all down. It is a shame there weren’t any more people eating, one or two did join in throughout lunch but it wasn’t exactly a rush. We would imagine that it is a popular restaurant in the evening, but that lunchtime opening is just a convenience whilst they do the cleaning. The bill, including 3 drinks came to £30.65 which was not at all excessive. We will definitely return. One slight thing that irked us, was that when we left we noticed a lunchtime special menu in the window, which basically offered a two course lunch for about £6 per head. We hadn’t noticed on the way in and weren’t offered the choice when seated. Phil. |
