Hannah Indian Restaurant4 Oatmarket Hannah is a small Indian restaurant in the centre of Nantwich. It is located opposite Woolworth's, next door to the Frog & Ferret public house. It has an extensive menu of both standard and the occasional more unusual dish such as murgh dahi (chicken cooked with yoghurt), Murgh Poc Harga (chicken cooked with onion, herbs, cream and garnished with egg and capsicum), shahi turka (lamb, chicken or king prawn cooked with onion, garlic, ginger, yoghurt and green chilli). Every Tuesday and Wednesday there is a buffet style (help yourself to as much as you like) service. It now costs £5.95 per head (was £5 for a while). There is always the a la carte option aswell. The restaurant is on the first floor above the local shops and is nicely decorated with interesting style of seats and furniture. Children are particularly welcome. On Sunday children eat free and on buffet evenings are only usually charged half price. This makes it a particularly affordable evening out on a budget. However, the last time we ate their we were charged full price for our children, one aged nine, seven and six. The buffet meal has poppadums and chutneys, a starter, usually something like onion bhajis, main courses of three different curries, pillau rice and naan breads (individually cooked and brought out steaming hot). Different main courses presented on my visits have been chicken korma, chicken massala, keema peas, mixed vegatables. I have to admit that having made a subsequent number of visits this has not varied and is becoming predictable. At lunchtimes Monday to Saturday, there is a special menu available at £3.99 for two courses or £4.99 for three courses. I have not eaten at lunchtime there myself, but I have it on excellent authority that the food is freshly prepared and of good quality. At one time this restaurant boasted out 'Restaurant of the Week' accolade for the North West. However, although we still think it is good we have downgraded it on the basis of our subsequent visits. Verdict - worth trying, the buffet is ok but predictable. |
