The Emperor's Court is prominently located on Manchester Road, just outside of the town
centre in Northwich. It is a large and individually designed restaurant, set on its own
with a large car park to front, side and rear. The building is modern and air conditioned
with a large seating capacity. At one end of the restaurant is a large licensed bar, to
the side is the kitchen area with windows where you can see the hordes of kitchen staff
industriously preparing the food over rather menacing burners.
We have also sampled this restaurant on Sunday when it serves a decent buffet lunch
throughout the afternoon. The buffet is excellent and well presented, with a choice of
soup, starters and main courses for about £8 per head (children half price). One
critisism we have with such a service is that although the dishes are rotated to some
degree, there is an air of sameness about the menu from week to week. Having said that it
is a cheap and cheerful Sunday lunch out for the family and we would recommend it highly
for that.
The a la carte menu is fairly extensive although representative of a typical Chinese
restaurant. There are no real surprises and the prices are also fairly typical. There are
also the usual banquets and set dinners, which tend to be good value for a larger party.
The service is friendly and efficient and the food always presented fresh and hot. The
waiters and waitresses are attentive and courteous.
Verdict - A good provincial Chinese restaurant. Large enough to
accommodate large
parties and children easily and discretely. Food is good and prices are average, no real
negatives or superlatives. Sunday buffet is good value.

Update
May 2000
Sunday Buffet
We have followed up our previous visit by two more Sunday
lunchtimes.
The menu has now changed slightly although disappointingly
it was the same on both visits
The menu was chicken & sweetcorn soup, prawn crackers,
spring rolls, prawn & sesame toas, spare ribs and salt and pepper
chicken.
Main courses were chicken chow mein, sweet and sour pork,
beef in oyster sauce, pork in blackbean sauce, Sichuan chicken and egg fried rice.
Very enjoyable and great value for money.
Recommended.
