The Drum and Monkey PubThe Drum and Monkey Pub Set well back off Heyes Lane in Alderley Edge, about 10 minutes walk from the centre of the town. It is a rather pleasant setting with a patio of garden furniture overlooking a bowling green. We visited on a three occasions recently and were blessed with excellent sitting out weather twice. Although the pub seems to belong to a chain of eateries, it didnt have that typical look and feel that these sort of places usually engender. I think this is a good thing that it has very much retained its own identity. I think that the presence of a bowling green also adds to that individual feel. The menu is a good variety of typical pub food, such as steak and kidney pudding, fish and chips etc, and some imported favourites such as the curry and nan bread. There is also a good selection of sandwiches and rolls. On each occasion I was eating with a party of about 10. I can comment on the gammon and egg and the steak and kidney pudding. Both were served with French fries and peas, the pudding was large and wholesome and the gammon came with two eggs. I would comment that whilst French fries are fine with burgers and sandwiches, the more traditional meals would have been complimented more by real chips. Overall, a very pleasant pub that serves decent food in nice surroundings. Recommended for a pub meal. Phil
