Choy Hing Village Chinese RestaurantChoy Hing Village Chinese Restaurant97, Knutsford Rd Saturday 23rd January 1999 12 of us had dinner at the Choy Hing Village, in Grappenhall, Warrington. As the occasion was a family get-together, combined with birthdays, belated Christmas and New-Year celebrations etc. The emphasis was on social intercourse, rather than gastronomy. To this end, we all opted for one of the standard "banquets" - saves time, lots of choice, we all know (roughly) how much we're going to pay The restaurant is fairly small, and well attended. We never had to wait long for the attention of a waiter when one was required. Each course was presented onto the Lazy Susan - and this posed the greatest cause for discomfort: with twelve of us, only a quarter of the complement could help themselves at any one time - it would have been better if the courses had been presented on two or more platters. This problem did not materialise with the "main" courses - there were enough of those that everyone could dive in simultaneously. Another problem that I personally ran into - though some others of our group did suffer to a lesser extent - the temperature. Twice I had to leave the table to stand outside to cool off. I couldn't really complain about this, as most other people seemed to be able to tolerate it. Although the restaurant does not have a no-smoking policy, the only problem we had in that direction came, sadly, from our own table. £33.00 per head, including all drinks, seemed to be par for the course, and we'd enjoyed the evening so much anyway. Recommended. |
