The Tandoori Kitchen

The The Tandoori Kitchen is a medium to sized restaurant in the famous Rusholme area of South Manchester. It has no on site car parking but local street parking and off road car parks in the area are plentiful.

The Tandoori Kitchen is long established and well renowned restaurant in this area. It is not licensed like some others in the area but is accepted generally as one of the top restaurants and best value for money.

The menu itself is typical of Rusholme and has the standard Karahi dishes which I and many other regard as the benchmark for the area. It also has a wide selection of the mainstay Indian restaurant choices.

The restaurant used to be known for its takeaway annexe that had a tandoor oven in the front window so you could watch the kebabs and nans being prepared and taken in and out of the oven. This has now been revamped and it is just like any other takeaway in the area. Its a shame really because it was something of a spectacle.

The food is all freshly prepared. The Karahi dishes which typify Rusholme restaurants are excellent. The portions are plentiful and the fresh spice and herb content is openly apparent.

The Service is good and the food always arrives fresh and hot. The breads (always an indicator) are freshly prepared and piping hot. The nan breads and other tandoori delicacies are obviously cooked in a tandoor oven.

There are no special buffets or other inducements to dine. The prices are generally below those of the other top class restaurants in the area, although they often surpass the Tandoori Kitchen for decor. The restaurant is open at lunchtimes. There is no delivery service

Verdict - A top restaurant that is great value. The atmosphere in the evening is busy and happy, everybody is enjoying excellent Indian food in convivial and friendly surroundings. Young children are made quite welcome which makes this a tremendous place to bring the whole family and encourage children to experiment and enjoy other foods.
