Quincey's American Diner and Cocktail BarQuincey's American Diner & Cocktail
Bar We wanted to take our 11 year old daughter, Emily, out for a bit of a treat without inflicting our own preferences on her, which ruled out Indian, Thai, Italian, French and just about all of the worlds classic cuisines. This left a choice of a MacDonalds, Wacky Warehouse, Fatty Arbuckles or if we could possibly find somewhere more to our taste we would try to negotiate that. In a flash of inspiration I remembered Quincys at Northwich, which I recall we went to some years before. I thought it might be a bit different and a bit more atmospheric than the typical 11 year olds choice, and at the same time have a sporting chance of providing some sort of food she wouldnt turn her nose up at. Quincys is a sort of American diner and bar just off the A56 on the road into Northwich. It now appears to have developed into a motel as well, I cant recall that it was when we ate there some years ago. The style is very typical American diner serving typical American come Tex-Mex dishes. It has all the appropriate prints and highway signs stuck to the walls and ceiling, and the bar, which is actually billed as a cocktail bar is to one side and separate from the dining area. As we were taking an 11 year old out we were eating early evening rather than a little later which we would do normally. However there were a few other diners already in the restaurant and more trickled in as the evening went on. We had some drinks, I had a pint of Fosters lager, but they also sell other brands like Miller, Budweiser etc. The other two had cokes. There was also an impressive list of deadly sounding cocktails which seemed reasonably priced if you like that sort of thing. While we had a drink we studied the menu. We decided to order the combo starter between the three of us, which contained a mixture of most of the starters on the menu. It consisted of deep fried mushrooms in breadcrumbs, deep fried onion rings in batter, chicken wings in a barbeque sauce, nachos with sour cream, guacamole and salsa and potato wedges. For main course I had the buzzards breath chilli served with nachos, sour cream and salsa, Linda had a burger without fillings, served with side salad and fries, and Emily had a burger and fries of the kids menu. The menu choice was fair and included ribs, chicken, burgers, steak as would be expected. The starters were fine and just about enough for the three of us. The main courses were OK too. We had a little problem with Lindas burger, which had to be sent back because it had gone cold. This was dealt with very well, her whole meal replaced and we also had complimentary drinks, so as we werent paying a fortune and it wasnt a formal occasion it was fine by us. The food was a good example of what is served in this type of restaurant. It was well presented and tasty. My buzzards breath chilli was rather nice and was probably a lot more authentic to how it would be served in the States than most places in this country manage. The burgers were large meaty and tasty and the fries hot and fresh. Overall we were quite satisfied, the service was reasonable and for the price we felt we had had a reasonable deal and would probably return again. Recommended. Phil.
