Mumbai Premier Indian RestaurantMumbai Premier Indian
Restaurant Tel.: 01625 538800 Monday 25 February 2002 We booked a table for 7pm on the Saturday night, and I am glad that we did, the restaurant was relatively empty when we arrived but that was soon to change as, although it is tucked away, the Indian is very popular. We were greeted by a gentleman, who turned out to be the manager, and shown to our table towards the rear of the restaurant - this is not the kind of place that feels the need to put you in the window to make them look busy! We were served some popadoms and chutneys then presented with the menus and a wine list and left for a little while to ponder them before the manager returned to take our order. We ordered the Mixed kebab starter and the onion bhaji starter and one cod massala main course before I asked the manager for his recommendation (I tend to do this as it gives more of an idea as to the specialities of the restaurant) on this occasion I was directed toward the Achari (Lamb cooked in pickled lime with green chillies and coriander) along with Pilau rice and a peshwari naan. The meal was lovely in presentation, quantity and in taste and at about £38 including two large glasses of wine and coffee was very reasonably priced. I must state that the manager seemed to be very “customer orientated” as he went out of his way to advise or to exchange pleasantries with all of the customers and at no time was he aware that we were there for anything other than a quiet meal. In conclusion, the Mumbai is well worth a visit. John Brown Cheshire p.s. see Charlote Trainer's article on the Mumbai
