Ming Sum Chinese RestaurantMing Sum Chinese Restaurant (now Closed)Ming Sum Chinese Restaurant It was almost empty, except for a couple of other diners and the waiter having his lunch too. We sat down and were given the lunchtime specials menu, where each course is a selection at a set price. We chose just to go for the main course at £3.90. I chose the sweet & sour mix, with fried rice (an extra 50 pence for fried rice, but I find boiled too bland). My daughter chose the chicken fried rice. We ordered some soft drinks while we waited. Not too long to wait though, the meals arrived within about 5 minutes. The chicken fried rice was served on a large plate and the sweet and sour was served separately to the rice. The portions were large and the food delicious. The sweet and sour mix contained bits of everything, including chicken, pork, duck and prawns and also pieces of barbecued spare rib, on the bone. The chicken fired rice was perhaps a little dry for my taste, and my daughter not being the most adventurous spent most of the lunchtime picking out the bits she didn't like, like the peas and spring onion! Still I suppose she will grow up to appreciate these things, I am doing my best to train her. The restaurant is a little old fashioned by todays standards, with rather 1970s decor. But it gives this restaurant a charm of its own. The service is friendly and the food is good. Verdict - although we only tried the lunchtime menu, there was enough evidence that the quality of the food is good and the prices are very reasonable. It is a long established restaurant which has built up its reputation over the years, which a bit of pine cladding and vinyl does not seem to denegrate. Try it out. Phil. |
