La CantinaLa Cantina La Cantina is a Spanish style Tapas bar on Mill Street in Macclesfield. The ambience is probably as close to a Tapas bar in Spain as you are going to get in the UK, the hot weather helped, as did the Spanish owner, only outside seating or an opening frontage would have completed the effect. The restaurant is surprisingly large inside and very "right". Sue and I went on Saturday lunchtime. There is a daytime menu and a specials board, but we chose from the standard menu. There are 31 tapas items on this, some of which have variations, making a very wide selection, with many vegetarian options and even some vegan ones. There are also four variations on paella, including a vegetarian one. We chose "Patatas Bravas" (with tomato and herb sauce), "Berenjena Rellena" (stuffed aubergine), "Croquetas" (we chose the vegetarian ones, which were two large coquettes on a salad), "Alcachofas Fritas" (artichokes) and Catalina Bread. This was a rather large lunch for the two of us and was our main meal of the day. The flavours were wonderful and the experience is one we shall be repeating. the meal including 3 ½s of bitter and a coke came to £16.50 so was very good value for money. If you plan to visit in the evening, BOOK, it has become very popular. Verdict: Highly recommended. Dave Wardell |
