La Boheme French RestaurantLa Boheme French Restaurant
3, Mill Lane Tel: 01925 753657 Sunday 9th May 2004 My daughter's birthday dinner. She had originally wanted to go to Nico Central, but they are closed on Sundays. Where to go? Trying to satisfy four different criteria was posing some problems. Then we remembered La Boheme. We had been there a few times before, and had always been impressed. (See our first review here .) A couple of years on, and the restaurant still produces absolutely excellent meals at prices which put others to shame. Drinks: G&T, bottle of Lager, Pernod and a Fruit Juice Kathryn: Chicken Liver pate with Brandy, Steak Marg: Haddock Beignet w/ Chilli Sauce, Steak Lee: Caesar Salade, Porc Me: Dinde Poelee (Turkey Coriander Chilled Noodles), Gigonette d' Agneau on Mash & Roast Vegetables Rioja Crianza, a nicely rounded choice which went well with all the dishes. Sparkling water. For dessert, both Lee and I felt we could not resist the "assiette": a sample of each of the desserts. It was a struggle, but we managed it! Kathryn opted for her favourite: Chocolate Ice Cream. Various coffees were served along with home-made chocolate truffles. We all, as is our wont, sampled each-other's dishes and we were able to pronounce all excellent - except Marg's overdone Steak. No, we can't blame the restaurant, Marg actually prefers well done! The only downside is the bar area, which allows smoking. I have said in the past that restaurants can cater for both smokers and non-smokers, but that it needs good ventilation. Unfortunately, the required ventilation wasn't evident. The dining area is completely non-smoking, so (partially) redeemed on that score. It seemed that the staff were one down that night, but though they were evidently running around rather faster than one would normally expect, the standard of service remained good. The main dining room was almost full, and the ambience was warm and friendly. Total: £86.53 We all felt that this represented superb value-for-money. La Boheme remains one of our favourites - it has stood the test of time and we heartily recommend it to you. Bon apetit! Sandro (& family)
