L'Ancre d'Or
L'Ancre
d'Or
Tel.: 47 29 73, 5th September 2001 After wandering around a few restaurants which I will one day try - when I can afford them, I came across this Restaurant just round the corner from the Grand Ducal palace. My penchant for seafood came to the fore once more, so I ordered their "Schueberfouer " special "Surf & Turf" dish of Mussels in a cream and cider sauce, together with a filet steak. When it arrived, it was of monumental proportions - evidently fashioned for American appetites - either the mussels or the steak would have provided an adequate meal, but put them together and add a gigantic portion of frites, and I was overwhelmed. The mussels were fresh and tasty, the filet tender and the frites not too greasy. Three small beers and an espresso to finish brought the bill to 1160LuF - considerably less than £20.00. The ambience was interesting - even though you come to expect a cosmopolitan atmosphere in Luxembourg, it is still a bit of culture shock to be able to overhear conversations (well bits of them!) in French, German, English, Spanish, Italian, Dutch - and often all of them simultaneously. The party across from me were conversing in French, German and English! The owner was Italian, which was good for me, because my Italian is a little better than my French! Either way, there was little difficulty in making myself understood. Recommended Sandro
