Inglenook RestaurantThe Inglenook Restaurant On this fine, hot day, just before the main holiday season, Barmouth appeared deserted. The Inglenook is central - though Barmouth itself isn't a big place - and near the harbour. The menu board looked promising - especially as we were at a port, and could perhaps expect something special in the line of seafood. Neither of us were, however, on top form, as we were unused to the heat (after some atrocious "summers" here in England!). Margaret isn't a seafood fan, so went for breaded Plaice and admitted to eating just to keep me company, so I won't comment on her meal. I started with Roll Mop, followed by Halibut in a Prawn Sauce. The Roll Mop was good, but nothing to write home about. The Halibut lacked any hint of freshness, and the sauce congealed all too quickly, leaving an unpleasant skinned appearance. All this was served in a friendly way, but was unrefined and demonstrated a lack of attention - to detail or clientelle. At least one of our fellow diners asked to be moved from one (how many were there?) of the dining rooms (presumably because he'd been ignored?) to the main one. This is a great shame, because a restaurant in such a location could, with skill and devotion, become a World-class haven. Verdict - Must try harder. Sandro |
