The Fortune City Chinese Restaurant
96 - 96a London Road The Fortune City is located in a prominent position on the main A50 (London Road) just on the edge of the village of Holmes Chapel. It is a large restaurant and it has its own private off road car parking. The Fortune City is a long established restaurant with a reputation for good food but at a price. Indeed the food is very good but it would be more palatable if there was a more welcoming ambience. I suspect times are not so good these days for this restaurant. This probably has a lot to do with other restaurants opening in the area when at one time the only ethnic choice was the Fortune City. Therefore, I doubt if there is any real need to book a table in advance except for special occasions. The menu itself is fairly extensive but contains nothing out of the ordinary. There are also the usual range of set dinners for between two and five people and also a banquet based on (currently £24) per head. The prices are somewhat on the high side. Perhaps at one time they felt they could sell their food at a premium but now there is nothing about this restaurant that would suggest that that is true. Service is efficient but marked by a rather miserable attitude. The food always arrives fresh and hot. Although sometimes you get the feeling that it would be more cheerfully served down the back of your neck. Verdict - A good quality restaurant but a little expensive. Service with a smile would be a nice addition |
