The Diwana Bhel-Poori House121-123 Drummond Street, Monday 27th April 2000 I had 5 minutes to catch my train. I was already at Euston Station, so I should have been able to make it. But every time Im in London I try to make time to eat at the Diwana - usually at their "eat all you want" buffet (during the hours of 12:00 to 2:30 - £4.50.) I decided to catch a later train. Most times, I settle easily for the "Deluxe Dosa" a lovely dish of potatoes and other vegetables wrapped in a crispy rice pancake, served with a curry sauce and a pot of coconut relish. The Diwana is a Vegetarian restaurant which does not serve alcohol. The decor is plain - Pine tables and bench seats. Meals are served on stainless steel dishes. On this occasion, I decided to try the chefs special. This changes daily, and this Monday was Channa Battura. A simple dish of Chick peas in a curry sauce, served with a little dish of salad, a pot of Raita, and a large bread (Battura?). A glass of Coke to finish off, and I was a happy bunny. Nothing pretentious here, I really felt as though Id had a home-cooked meal (and one of my close friends hails from Calcutta, and is a very good cook). At less than £5 (plus Coke and tip), its a bargain. Recommended!!! Sandro
