Phil and I were meeting for lunch - supposedly at Saints & Scholars, but we were thwarted - they were closed. Wilmslow isn't too far away so we thought we'd try the Samsi Yakitori Bar - we hadn't been there for a long time. We were to be disappointed yet again - they were closed also.

Never mind, there is a Wine Bar / Restaurant next door - "Dinks", and the menu was promising.

We're always eager to try new places, so in we went.

Pleasant surroundings opening out onto a patio at the rear where a few people were sitting in the sunshine. We discerned deteriorating weather, so elected to take a table inside, which was empty. The menu, although interesting, was probably a little expensive for our workaday lunch, so we were pleasantly surprised when the set lunch menu was presented and was itself very acceptable.

We ordered a pint of Stella each while we decided.

Salmon Terrine with a Sour Cream sauce or Melon to start. Salmon, or Pork Steak for main course, at £9.50.

We both opted for the Terrine and Pork. By now a few more people were coming in, and the place began to feel a little less deserted. The Salmon Terrine was fine, and nicely presented. The waitress asked, when we'd finished, whether we were ready for the main course, or whether we wanted to have a break - a nice touch.

Another pint of Stella for Phil, then the Main course arrived: Large, hot, plates with a substantial pork steak placed on top of a helping of Mash, a few slices of courgette, and gravy. I found the pork just right, the gravy tasty, and the mash of good texture, with a hint of cheddar coming through.

Finish off with coffees.

I really enjoyed this meal. It was unpretentious, well presented, well cooked and well served. The staff were welcoming and attentive.

The bill came to less than £30 for us both.
