Balti Massala Indian Restaurant (Update)

Balti Massala Indian Restaurant

This is an update to the original review.

Five of us planned to descend on the Balti Massala in Holmes Chapel on Friday evening. We took a chance by not booking but it is rarely a problem early in the evening.

We all had poppadums, chutneys and drinks whilst we studied the menu. We opted not to have starters but to go straight into the main course. I ordered a chicken dhansak, others ordered balti saag gosht, chicken tikka jalfrezi, chicken korma and a chicken biryani. We also ordered naan breads each and an assortment of pillau rice, mushroom pillau and vegetable pillau.

My dhansak was most unusual and nothing like any dhansak I have had from there or anywhere else before. A dhansak is usually in a fairly substantial lentil sauce, but this was a thin creamy sauce. It was slightly hot, with pineapple ring for sweetness as well. I have to admit that I did enjoy this departure from tradition. Everybody commented on the quality of the food and the generous size of the portions.

We ate our meals and washed the food down with cold Kingfisher lager.

The bill came to £17 per head, which is a above average, but the quality of the food and service was good.

Phil.
