Balti Massala Indian RestaurantBalti Massala Indian RestaurantThe Precinct33 London Road Holmes Chapel Cheshire CW4 7AJ Tel: 01477 535880 We have a more recent update to this review. Balti Massala is a small restaurant in a precinct of shops. It has a very 1970's feel to the surroundings. However, it does have the advantage of a large car park adjacent for users of the precinct shops The Balti Massala is Holmes Chapel's first Indian restaurant, and as such is a welcome offering. However it is a fairly upmarket area and nothing less that the highest standards of quality and service will do. It meets these to a large extent but suffers from a 'shop front' image and precinct location. There is no menu on display outside of the restaurant so unless you have eaten there before or seen a copy of the takeaway menu there is no knowing what you have let yourself in for. The menu itself is fairly standard. There is a selection of chef's specials which are a more exotic variation on the Balti theme. It is very similar to the Eastern Nights in Middlewich. The rest of the menu has a large Balti and traditional selection. The downside is that anything described as Balti means it is more expensive. The chef's specials are not cheap. However overall the standard of food, generosity of portions and quality of the ingredients used is very good. The takeaways are priced more competitively and are reasonable value for money. Service is good and the food always arrives fresh and hot. The breads (always an indicator) are freshly prepared and piping hot. A tandoor is obviously used for the naans and other tandoori dishes on the menu. There are no special buffets or other inducements to dine. The restaurant is also closed at lunchtimes. There is no delivery service Verdict - A good quality restaurant but for anybody prepared to seek alternatives locally there are perhaps better (value for money) options although for quality of food, the Balti Massala is hard to beat. A tentative recommendation. Phil. |
