Aberdeen Angus Steak HouseShaftesbury
Avenue After a long and arduous walk through London on our long weekend, Marg and I had had a large lunch (see review of Sofra, Mayfair), and wanted something easy for dinner. We couldn't bring ourselves to embark on an elaborate meal - in fact Marg fancied a fish dish. We walked and walked but couldn't decide on anything. So we lowered our sights and decided to go for a simple steak. There are two Aberdeen Angus Steak Houses on Shaftesbury Avenue, opposite each other. We went to the larger of the two. A wait of a couple of minutes before a table was cleared for us. I asked if there was a no-smoking section - No! We sit down. The place is full, and is showing signs of neglect. Twenty minutes later, a waiter arrives and we try to order. It seems that he could probably have understood "Steak and Chips, please", but "A medium Steak" completely floored him, and he went away flummoxed. We waited a little longer and watched one of the other two waitresses spend five minutes preparing a drinks order. A little bloke on a table further down from us, who had come in just in front of us, got up to try and get some service. We walked out. Sandro and Marg
