Romantic Nights In
So you and your loved one have some time to yourselves, and you're feeling a little tired from a long week at work; a romantic night in sounds like the perfect solution to an evening that might otherwise be wasted. But how do you create the right atmosphere and choose the right activities? We're here to help.
First of all, you'll need to plan what you'll be eating, as a nice meal is a staplemark of a romantic evening. You have the advantage of using your own (or their) kitchen, so the menu is solely defined by your own access to ingredients and capabilities as a chef, whether you're an expert at cooking up sauces full of spices and fine wine or you're more of a pasta-and-pesto person.
The meal just needs to be something that's finely tuned and matched to the two of you. If you love a laugh and want to have fun, why not make a finger-food meal or serve a lobster with a couple of nutcrackers and mallets? Alternatively, if you want something more adult, then an few elegant courses will do the job - light starter, tasty and reasonably-sized main course, and a sumptuous dessert.
Of course, you'll also need to think about activities outside dinner - a film is always a good bet, and either choosing an old favourite (so the two of you can chat without having to pause the film or miss anything), or something that'll stimulate conversation afterwards are sound choices.
The evening can be as formal or as casual as you like - a shirt or a nice dress can make the dinner feel a little bit more special, but there's no harm in climbing into your pajamas and cuddling up with some popcorn or even a takeaway (though be sure to order this in advance, as then you're not left filling the gap in between arrival and dinner). Your relationship and your evenings together are defined by you as individuals, so don't feel as though you have to drink champagne and admire his tuxedo or her gown to feel in love.
Lastly, be sure to take time to relax in between each activity, as a strict schedule can spoil the mood. Just remember to enjoy yourselves, and relax - you're taking a night off cruising the town, after all.
