| I'm sure most of you know about Basil, and its use in
Mediterranean Cooking, but I have another use. I quite often buy a tub of growing Basil
from the supermarket (I know - I should grow my own - but my busy lifestyle is compounded
by distinctly non-green fingers). I place the tub on the windowledge in the kitchen - the
place where I always pass on my way out to the car in the morning.
I leave the plant in the plastic sheath the pot is sold in, because it forms a nearly
perfect mask - a quick ruffle of the leaves, then stick my face into the sheath and
inhale...
The aroma of fresh Basil is, to me, similar to the smell of freshly roasted coffee -
almost always better than the finished product. The aroma never fails to lift my spirits -
even if I know I'm heading into the office for a particularly gruelling day, the Basil
cheers me up. I'm becoming more and more convinced of the beneficial effects of
Aromatherapy.
Maybe this is because I have a mediterranean background.
