Fish & SeafoodNATIONAL SEAFOOD WEEKHealthy Eating Theme for First UK-Wide Seafood CelebrationThe Sea Fish Industry Authority (Seafish) has unveiled plans to launch the first UK-wide National Seafood Week later this year. Seafish will use the week to promote the benefits of eating seafood, in all its forms, to consumers across the UK. Special emphasis will be placed on the health and convenience benefits of preparing and eating seafood. In a move to differentiate it from the plethora of other national weeks, the organisers have taken the unusual decision to start the week on a Friday, in deference to the UKs traditional fish eating day. National Seafood Week takes place from Friday October 5 to Friday October 12. Mandy Queen, Consumer Communications Executive for Seafish, says the Week will provide the ideal focus for a range of activities and promotions celebrating the benefits of seafood across all fronts. Central to the week will be the launch of a major in-store healthy eating campaign aimed at raising consumer awareness of exactly why eating seafood is good for you, she explains. This will be supported by themed activities geared to a wide range of audiences everything from schools competitions to restaurant and seafood company link-ups and promotions. The week will have its own distinctive branding and we hope to make it a firm annual fixture in our promotional diary, she adds. 16th June, 2001
