Glasgow Mussel Fortnight
Seafood Scotland Glasgow Mussel Fortnight 3rd - 17th October, 2001
|
Seafood Scotland, the promotional
body for the Scottish Seafood Industry, along with
three major restaurants shall be holding Glasgows first ever Mussel Fortnight between
the 3rd and the 17th October.
At this time of year, mussels are in peak
season for eating and their condition is at its best. In several
European countries, such as Ireland, Belgium and Holland, hold
large, outdoor mussel festivals to celebrate this fact.
This event of celebration is the first of
its kind in Scotland, taking this concept into some of the Best
Seafood Restaurants in the UK, and is a precursor for a regular
annual event.

Craig Morris, of Seafood Scotland, stated
Scotland, when it comes to Seafood, Scotland is perhaps more
traditionally associated with a Haddock Supper than fresh mussels in
white wine sauce, but as tastes are becoming more varied, and people
are looking for something a little more exciting, then a visit to
one of these restaurants during the Mussel Fortnight is highly
recommended."
The restaurants that are holding the
promotion are The Mussel Inn, Hope St, Rogano Seafood Restaurant, 11
Exchange Place, and the Glasgow Hilton, 1 William St, Gamba, 225a
West George Street and Frango, 15 John Street.
Visitors can be assured of first class
service, and mussels (at a discounted rate) of the highest quality.
There will also be in-restaurant cookery demonstrations for
visitors, held in selected venues and times.
The promotion is also being held in
conjunction with Food Fest 2001, held at the SECC between the 3rd to
the 7th October. Seafood Scotland shall be exhibiting, giving out
samples of different Seafood products, holding a prize draw for 5
meals for 2 persons and promoting the numerous healthy benefits of
seafood in the human diet
