Calling all fish and chips lovers! It's time for
another serving of the fantastically popular Fish and Chip Shop of the
Year Competition. Don't miss your chance to vote for the most prestigious
fish and chip shop of 2000 when the competition launches on 17th
July.
Shops from all over the country are 'hotting
up' in preparation for this renowned competition. It's all very simple,
participating fish and chip shops will display a 'Fish and Chip Shop of
the Year Competition 2000' poster, and all you have to do is pick up an
entry form and cast your vote! Remember you only have two weeks to vote,
so get it wrapped by the 31st July!
Only the crème de la crème will get through to
the finals. Undercover 'mystery shoppers' and judges will be looking for
an unbeatable experience - from to-die-for tasty fish and chips and an
unrivalled friendly service, to an environment that is enjoyed by all the
family - anything else will just slip through the net!
Eight regional winners from around the UK will
be announced in mid-October. We will see the regional finalists queuing up
for a portion of glory at the grand final being held at London's Café
Royal on 8th November.
The overall winner will be awarded an
impressive trophy by the celebrity food and drink guru Jilly Goolden.
Being one of the 'big fish' in the food and drink business means Jilly
knows what's hot and what's not when it comes to pairing Britain's
favourite hot take-away with a top tipple.
To tantalise those taste buds, Jilly has
recommended everything from the traditional partner of tea to the more
unusual combination of wine.
"To choose the perfect white wine, you need to
consider not just the fish itself, but the batter, the chips - and
even the additional flavourings such as salt and vinegar. One is to
choose a fresh, zingy light white wine such as a Sauvignon Blanc to
act like a squeeze of lemon.
