The search is on to
find the pubs that serve the best quality and range of British
cheeses in the country, for the British Cheese Board Recommended Pub
Scheme.
The scheme is now in
its third year and aims to discover and officially credit the pubs
with the best British cheese offering, to ensure that the public are
served the very best British cheese and to promote the eating of
tasty cheese in pubs.
To make sure no pubs
miss out on winning this great accolade, The British Cheese Board is
urging members of the public to nominate their local pub for
official recommended status. So if your local serves the best cheesy
dishes around or has a cheese range to be proud of, the British
Cheese Board wants to hear from them.
Pubs will be judged
on the quality and variety of British cheese served whether as part
of a cheese board, Ploughmans or as an ingredient in a cheesy
dish.
Every pub that
enters the scheme will be visited by a specially appointed judge who
will grade the menu according to the following criteria:
Quality of presentation of British cheese on the set menu and/or
blackboard Interesting descriptions of cheese offered in terms of
strength, texture and origin The level of staff knowledge on the
dishes and cheeses being served The temperature at which uncooked
cheese is served The taste and appearance of the
dishes served
The pubs that fulfil all these criteria to the judges
satisfaction will gain British Cheese Board Recommended Status,
which will entitle them to receive a BCB branded plaque, tent cards
and inclusion in the 2001 Recommended Pub Guide.
To nominate
your local pub, please call the British Cheese Board on 0117 921
